How often should you review your insurance policies?
The case with several insurance policies be it life, health or a car insurance, need to be reviewed periodically. However, most people aren’t aware of this as they feel that if they have bought themselves a policy that is enough. On the other hand, you need to periodically go ahead and ensure that your life insurance policy or any other kind of insurance is in sync with your changing life needs and is able to meet them. What you might have been when you bought the policy is certainly not what you will be now. The changing phases of life and their demands on you also ensure that you need a life insurance policy that keeps in tandem with it.
The life insurance that you possess needs to take you through whole lot of phases in your life right from the first job, higher education, getting married, divorces and the birth of children. It should be able to fulfill your needs for a higher education for your children, your retirement plans and even the funeral expenses when you are no longer there. Therefore, every five years you need to revisit the insurance policy that you hold and check if it has everything that you need in it. You will also be able to study if you were to die will your children be taken care of and what the kinds of benefits that they will receive are.
The purpose for which you had originally purchased the insurance policy might no longer exist or have been replaced by something else. When you review your policy you will come to find out all of this and be able to take adequate steps to bring about a good addition to the policy to ensure that, that particular phase or event is taken care of. You can also review your beneficiaries, your address and phone number and make the relevant changes to them if they have changed and ensure that the insurance company records are up to date.
Also, if you notice any discrepancies or fine print then you can always approach the insurance policy and have them clarified. When you review your policy and insurance that you have you will also realize if there is any need for you to go ahead and buy another policy or buy riders to the existing insurance policy to meet the new need that has arisen.
A more cautious approach to it is to review all of your insurance policies at least once a year. Keep a specific time of the year when you sit down with your insurances and go through them with a fine comb one by one. There can be several life changes that might affect your policy and that is the right time for you to go ahead and call the insurance agent and see if they have anything new to offer. This can go about and make significant changes to not only your life but the insurance plan that you hold as well.
